Born and raised in the City of Melbourne, Australia, Graham’s musical influences of the day came from the likes of Marty Robbins, Guy Mitchell and the Everly Brothers which gave him his country roots. Serious playing began in the late 60s, playing in bands in local dance halls, bars before moving into Cabaret. During a period of working solo in the late 70s, Graham did some minor acting roles in the television series Prisoner and The Sullivans, both shows becoming international successes. He also appeared as an extra in the movie Thirst.
Joining the band STONEY CREEK in 1979, the band carved a name for itself on Australia's country music circuit, head lining at most of the major music festivals in the eastern states. Because of the band's harmonizing and backing abilities they were also chosen as a back up band for many of Australia’s top solo artists and support band for Tom T. Hall and Diana Trask. We were also the backing band for the contestants in the Tamworth Starmaker Talent Quest, an event that was to launch the careers of several of today's stars such as Keith Urban and Lee Kernaghan.
During this period he was writing more songs than the band could use, so he entered the New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards winning Best Composition with Lady Right and also fourth prize for Goodbye Lover, Hello Friend.
2005 saw Graham back in the studios to record some of the songs that had been recorded using the old analogue recording equipment years ago, this time being recorded using today’s digital computer technology. The approach to this recording was very different to the old days and more time was spent in this process. January 2006 saw the independent release of a four song EP which was played on radio throughout Australia and Europe while finishing off the Soundboard album.
January 2006 saw the independent release of a four song EP which was played on radio throughout Australia and Europe while I finished off the rest of the album. February 2007 saw Goodbye Lover, Hello Friend released on a compilation album and released to 25 countries by NITE*SKY Records of Ohio, and TKO Records in Canada, which made Top10 in eight European countries including my my first No1 in Ireland and a No2 in Italy and Austria. The second single, Crazy, was also released by NITE*SKY Records and received worldwide airplay. July 2007 saw There’s a New Way in the Top 10 in Sweden and Ireland, a surprise as it hadn’t been released there.
I am presently back in the recording studio with friend and producer Charlie Kneale. Our aim is to record some new works by my old band Stoney Creek, but due to lack of availability of other members, it might prove to be another solo album for me.
